Our story

It started with one steamer and a very stubborn grandmother

In 2007, the Gurung family opened a nine-seat counter with a single bamboo steamer, a hand-written menu and a recipe that had never been written down at all.

Aama refused to let anyone cut corners: the wrappers get rolled by hand, the filling gets seasoned by taste, and nothing goes in a freezer. Nearly two decades and three kitchens later, we still fold every momo the same way — because the shortcut version was never the thing people fell in love with.

I have eaten a lot of dumplings in this city and these are the ones I think about on the subway home. The jhol momos are unreal, and the staff actually remembered my order the second time.

We do the Family Momo Combo every other Friday. Four people, thirty-two momos, zero leftovers. The kids fight over the cheese and corn ones.

As a vegetarian I usually get one sad option. Here I had trouble choosing. The paneer momos and the ginger tofu bowl were both excellent, and nothing tasted like an afterthought.
